The best part of my work

I recently got to photograph the 3rd sweet baby of this very dear-to-me family, and as I did, I mentally sifted through all my other moments with them.  I get happy-teary just thinking about them…  For all my friends and clients that have been with me for years, please know that for me, the best part of my work is the honor of being present at the significant milestones of your lives.    Thank you for trusting me with your best moments!

Modern Rustic Studio Barn – Holiday Sessions

With 22 mini sessions last weekend, I certainly have not had time to go through each of them to find all my favorite images – but here are a few!  It was a joy meeting new clients, and also seeing the sweet faces that I get to watch grow up year after year.

Our holiday look is simple – winter-y, cozy, clean.    We stocked up firewood for the stove, baked chocolate gingerbread, and put up the evergreens that we cut from the lot next door.  My mom, my girls and I wired eucalyptus garlands and wreaths.   And you did all the snuggling, laughing and tickling that made these sessions beautiful.

identical

5 years of connection.  They made the same face, at the same time, even when they couldn’t see each other.  All boy, timeless.

chasing light

Photography, defined by it’s Greek roots, is the art of drawing with light.  I remember in high school, seeing the world, and then in frustration trying to make it last.  Watercolor, drawing, painting…all hopeless.  The camera opened up a world to me.

I love the simplicity of this session.  For me, the focus is on emotion and relationship, with no distractions. Someday, in the blink of an eye, when your sweet baby turns 16, it is not his outfit, any certain prop, or the studio that matters. Do the images bring back the way his baby skin smelled?  How his soft chubby hands felt?  How you felt when he laughed?  That you can truly remember is my every hope when I take a photograph.   It’s the reason I take my humble job so seriously. :)

New Chicks & Ducklings on the Farm

AmyKimballPhotography_0783

Our springtime ducklings and chicks are at the farm!  This year we are doing these sessions at the Ann Arbor Farm studio to keep the babies less stressed and closer to home. :)  Chicks and ducklings grow remarkably fast;  they will hit their awkward teenage phase in just a few weeks.  So for a very limited time (April!) Ann Arbor farm shoots will include our baby ducklings and chicks.  Contact Aubreii to set up your session!
