Overcoming the 5 greatest fears...
After working with 100's of families with newborns over 10+ years, I realized that many parents share the same fears. Here are the top 5 things regarding a newborn session that parents are concerned about - I hope that I can help put your mind at ease!
01 - What if my baby is really fussy the day of the shoot?
Being fussy is par for the course: it will not worry me, and I don't want it to worry you. In the 13 years I've been photographing newborns, I've only had one baby fuss the whole time- and if that happens, we re-shoot for free! We have lots of experience calming fussy babies -our own, and everyone else's!
02 - what if baby needs continual Feedings & Diaper Changes?
They will for sure - life doesn't stop for a photo session! We plan every newborn session to be 3 hours to relieve all pressure or rushing. After photographing hundreds of newborns, I know this is the perfect amount of time for both baby's needs and beautiful images.
03 - What if we wear/bring the wrong things?
We have tried to think of everything so you don't have to! After you book your newborn session, your client portal will have great info about what to bring along, and what to leave home. We will guide you on what the whole family should wear. We will also let you know about baskets, wraps, swaddles and headbands (all of which we have!). We don't want you to waste money - we'll help you get just what you need.
04- What If my older kids are too high energy to bring along?
Siblings are such an important part of a newborn shoot! I am peaceful and patient - and I've got a whole set of games in my head that I use to engage siblings so we get images that are meaningful. Siblings are welcome to stay for the whole time or just come for the first hour and then go home with a grandparent or sitter.
05 - What if I hate the way I look right after giving birth?
You are not alone - women confide this fear to me regularly. However, in my follow up surveys, moms often say they left the session feeling "encouraged, beautiful and relaxed." They end up being SO thankful they overcame their fear. Your relationship with your newborn is beautiful - stunningly beautiful - even if you don't feel yourself yet.

Maternity Session
Maternity Session ~ $725
- 1 hour session
- 2 to 3 locations inside and outside the studio
- 2 to 3 outfits, if desired.
- Includes online viewing gallery with your choice of 20 high res, fully edited images to download. Print permission included.

Newborn Session
Newborn Session ~ $925
- 3 hour session
- Takes place in the renovated barn studio, with the option to do some shots outside if weather permits
- Use of all our newborn wraps, baskets, swaddles, etc.
- Siblings, pets, grandparents welcome. No extra charge.
- Includes online viewing gallery with your choice of 30 high res, fully edited images to download. Print permission included.
Milestone Package 1 - Newborn session + One ~ $1575
- (1) Newborn session, exactly as described above.
- (1) 1 hour additional session that includes your choice of 20 high res, edited images to download. Can be used for maternity, 6 month, or 1 year.
- Receive a code to book your future session when you are ready
- $75 savings over booking separately
Milestone Package 2 - Newborn session + Two ~ $2150
- (1) Newborn session, exactly as described above.
- (2) 1 hour additional sessions that include your choice of 20 high res, edited images to download. Can be used for maternity, 6 month, or 1 year.
- Receive a code to book your 2 future sessions when you are ready
- $225 savings over booking separately

Who will I work with?
We have 4 photographers on the AKP team that specialize in different areas, and work together to share the load. All four of us are open for your maternity session, but for a newborn session you will work with either Candice or Amy. We are each experts at our craft, have many years of experience, and similar styles. You can see who is working when you choose the day you book. What should we wear?
After you book, your confirmation email will have helpful info about clothing, what items to bring and what to leave home. We tried to think of everything so you don't have to! Our goal is for your session to feel relaxed & and for you to look your best.
what happens after my session?
10-14 days following your session, you will receive an online viewing gallery and will be able to select your favorite images for download.
Files will be high res, edited, and come with print permission. If you find you need more images then come with your session, you will have the option to purchase additional files.
Do I book my Newborn session Now?
We will have you choose your actual date and time after baby is born. When you book, you will receive a code (like a gift certificate!) that will allow you to choose your exact time later.
Do you stand by your work?
Your investment is safe! Know that we stand by our work and promise you will love your images or we will reshoot for free.
What if We get sick?
Please let us know as soon as possible if you or baby has illness or any major skin concerns/rashes. Small blemishes we can remove in post processing, but larger issues/illness may require waiting a little. We work hard to get you a new time asap, and there is no charge for rescheduling!
My parents are in Town!
Grandparents are welcome to join you for all or part of you session! No extra charge.
what is the best time for Maternity & Newborn Photos?
We recommend booking your maternity session between 32-36 weeks, and your newborn session will take place in the first few weeks after baby is born.
Where are you Located?
Studio/Farm is located 15 minutes west of Ann Arbor off of Scio Church Road. Detailed instructions will be provided after booking.
Can we bring our pet?
We love pets! They are always welcome. Please do remember that we have free-range chickens, so if your dog is likely to chase them, please keep him on a leash.
What about the weather?
If you are really wanting some of your images to be outdoors and it looks like it will be too hot, cold, windy or rainy we will get in touch with you! You will be contacted the day before your session regarding weather. If we need to reschedule, we leave time blocks open for just that purpose.
